Carpet on stairs is one of those things homeowners put up with for years. It traps dirt, it wears unevenly, and no matter how much you clean it, it always looks a little tired. This home had carpet throughout the stairs and flooring, and the homeowner was ready for a change.

We pulled the carpet out and replaced everything with new hardwood-style flooring - stairs included. Getting the stairs right is the part most people don't think about upfront. It's not just slapping planks down. Each tread has to be cut and fitted cleanly, the risers need to be crisp and consistent, and everything has to line up with the flooring on the landing below. If any of that is off, it shows.

The finished staircase carries the same warm wood tone as the floor running through the rest of the home. That continuity is what makes the whole space feel pulled together rather than patched together. The white risers against the natural wood grain give it a clean, high-contrast look that holds up well over time - and it's a lot easier to keep clean than carpet ever was.

This is one of those upgrades that changes how a home feels from the moment you walk in. The stairs are one of the first things you see, and in a two-story home, they're something you use every single day. Getting that detail right matters.
